Concept
The city of Daktopia is a small, quiet collection of happy people who's primary interests are the advancement of capitalism and their own wealth. The mayor is charged primarily with ensuring the continual financial success of the city with the smallest intervention into each citizen's bottom line as possible. The mayor is elected in a democratic convention of all the citizens, and the post is currently held by Mayor Daknit Drazzil, the city's founder.
History
The people of Daktopia originate from the far away land of Sumadartson, an ancient colonial offshoot of the Romulan Empire. The nation of Sumadartson grew at an exceptional pace, but those living inside the city were not satisfied with the extreme hand of the government. Rather than continue to live under the heavy hand of the Sumadartson Special Police, the people of Daktopia decided they would leave, and travel far away to establish their own land.
Their quest was long and exceptionally difficult. There were many perils along the way. The refugees from Sumadartson soon realized that there is a certain benefit to government. But still, their resolve and passion was as strong as ever and the group continued their journey. Along the way, they happened upon a bright, shimmering area before them. A people of intense curiosity, they explored it, and soon discovered it to be a gate to another land. It was on the other side of this that the city of Daktopia was founded... where it's legend began.
Economics
The city of Daktopia is a capitalist nation. The primary goal of the city is the advancement of trade and the procurement of wealth, for the citizens as well as the government. Trade is always at the top of the government's mind, and it's advancement is paramount. The currency of Daktopia is the credit, which all citizens keep track of electronically through the technologically advanced banking system put in place to prevent abuse. Credits are also represented with small slips of paper, each printed with an amount, much like a voucher.
Government
Daktopia is ruled by a democratically elected mayor. He is limited by a statute of basic truths. Within these guidelines, the government functions for the advancement of the economy and the peace and prosperity of every citizen. In extreme cases, democratic process may be suspended to help facilitate expedience, but such a measure must eventually be approved, and woe to the mayor who forgets this.
