The Evergreen Republic Duxbury is an archipelago community in Bradford Sound approximately 350 miles south of the United_States shoreline. The Isle of the Dux is the largest of three islands within the borders of Duxbury, and also houses the capital city of Duxbury Proper. Two other nearby islands, Big Bear Island and Cape Christmas, compose Duxbury Greater, the remaining of Duxbury's land area. Duxbury is known for its aggressive and militaristic history, breath-taking senic bueaty and an abundence of natural resources. Cape Christmas has long been a popular tourist destination with pristine, world-renowned beaches and warm ocean temperatures in the summer months.

History

The Dux Archipelago was first discovered by Buzz Aldrin the Third soon after the Great Nuclear Winter, though he died shortly after the exploration of the islands. Word of the new lands soon reached Myles Standish, the chosen leader for the persecuted ancient descendants of the Dux. In 2019, Myles Standish led a party of four ships with 200 settlers to land on the newly named Isle of the Dux. Construction began instantly on the port city of Duxbury and the City of Duxbury was soon after incorporated. After the incorporation of Duxbury, the city had little international standing until the discovery of large oil reserves in Bradford Sound brought wealth and trading partners to the island. Myles Standish ordered the construction of an airport, a seaport, a highway and railroads in an effort to open Duxbury to the rest of the world.

Duxbury saw steady growth until it joined the United States and became involved in the U.S. & Soviet War. In April of 2010 Duxbury was the victim of two nuclear attacks by members of Soviet Canuckistan. The attacks deepened the resolve of the Dux people and they responded by electing Myles Standish as President for Life on the platform of adopting an offensive military strategy. After the election, Duxbury spent a large porportion of its budget on defense and was involved in 15 invading campaigns. Since this foreign policy shift, Duxbury has returned to pre-war rates of growth and has been heavily recruited by several other countries.

Geography

In the Old World the Dux Archipelago was part of the Southeastern New England mainland. When sea levels rose much of the area was submurged until only three islands remained. They are 350 miles south of Lookout Point on the eastern coast of the United States. The Dux Archipelago stretches 150 miles and is composed of eight islands, although only three are inhabitable.

Climate

The Dux Archipelago is legendary for having an unpredicable climate and the islands are highly vulnerable to ocean storms. In the winter months from December to March the average temperatures hover in the mid-40's. The only location in Duxbury that averages over 5 inches of snow a year are the interior highlands of Big Bear Island, which can see over 40 inches of snow in some years.

Rainy season begins with spring in April as temperatures warm gradually from May to June. During the summer months of July and August the temperatures average over 75 degrees on Cape Christmas, the southernmost island. The archipelago also expirences hurricanes in late-August and early-September. The latest hurricane to strike Duxbury was Hurricane Estaphan, which hit Big Bear Island as a strong Category 3.

Economy

Duxbury's economy is centered largely on the excivation of fossil fuels. Vast offshore oil reserves have transformed Duxbury into a valuable trading partner. A sizable rubber industry also exists on the islands. Citizens have expirenced an uptick in income levels due to the introduction of spices and silk into the Duxbury marketplace.

Duxbury has a non-committed economic policy and likewise has a fluxuating tax rate. The economic ministries in Duxbury have adopted both socialist and capitalist philsophies. Basic essentials such as health, shelter, food and clothing are provided by the state, while most other forms of industry are left largely unregulated. Tourism has also become a hallmark of local revenue.

Military

The Duxbury Armed Forces are comprised of four divisions, The Evergreen Navy, The Evergreen Army, The Evergreen Air Force and Evergreen Intelligence. All three divisions of Duxbury's military have seen considerable combat expirence. More than half of Duxbury's national budget is funneled to defense purposes.

Army

The Evergreen Army was first established with the incorporation of Duxbury in 2009. The vast majority of the Army is dedicated to infintry and mechanized birgades. About a fifth of the Evergreen Army is committed to the mission of protecting Duxbury's skies in the Anti-Aircraft Evergreen Guard.

Duxbury's army is trained primarily in beach defense and raiding techniques. The most elite infintry are placed into special operative units which speicalize in looting foreign treasuries. Beacuse of Duxbury's offensive objectives the Evergreen Army has worked in close coordination with the other branches of the armed forces. Since the establishment of the army over 9,000 soldiers from the islands have been killed in conflict.

Navy

The Evergreen Navy was created soon after the construction of the Charles Naval Base on the southern shore of Big Bear Island. Originally, the Duxbury's navy only consisted of submarines but has since expanded to include a massive fleet of floating ships. The Evergreen Navy claims one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world with the S.E.R. Judithtown. The Evergreen Navy posts a high kill rate against foreign battleships and submarines as well.

Air Force

The Evergreen Air Force is world renowned for supporting the ruthless sieges laid upon lands abroad via the Navy and Army. In recent months the Air Force has been expanded to include a massive division of helicopters that have placed Duxbury among the most sucessful cities in the world at looting funds. The Evergreen Air Force works in strong coordination with the Navy as much of the planes are located on Duxbury's aircraft carriers.
