| For seven (7) days from the time you enter the contract, you MUST have greater than 0 MW Excess Power (Power), 0 TONs/day Excess Capacity (Garbage), and/or 0 Gallons/day Excess Capacity (Water). If at ANY time during your contract you fall BELOW 0.01 excess, your utility trading project will be DESTROYED and you must purchase it again to continue trading (costing another $50000). |
The Utility Market provides means of either reducing the financial strain of your cities utility needs by allowing you to purchase various amounts cheaper than you can produce, or by giving you the platform to sell your excess to others who don't want to invest in utility frameworks.
In order to take part in the Utility Market, your city must be at least 15 days old, because you will need one of the three projects that relate to utilities to take part in this market: Transmission Lines, Aqueduct or Garbage Barge.
The transmission lines allow you to either buy power from the grid or sell your excess (say if you build a hydroelectric dam and are waiting for your city's need to reach it's output). Trade of electricity is in Mega Watt levels.
An aqueduct gives you a similar avenue for water trading. In the case of water you will buy or sell in quantities > 10,000 gallons.
A garbage barge gives you a chance to either ship your garbage out for someone else to handle, or import another cities garbage to dispose of in your city. If you enter the Utility Market for garbage trading, 1 ton is the unit of measure. An important thing to know is that you can buy an incinerator to avoid having acres of landfills in your city. The incinerator costs $1250 each day, but if you get a contract for more than two tons of garbage, that cost is covered.
Once you have one of the three projects and enter the utility market menu item, you will see a box to either buy or sell a quantity of whatever item you are interested in. Also, there is a chart showing a history of the price of the commodity. An important tip here is that once you purchase a contract you are locked for one week at that price.
